Live N Direct is an early album by San Quinn, the Fillmore, San Francisco rapper who was born in Oakland and raised in the Fillmore from age three. It was released on JT the Bigga Figga’s Get Low Recordz; Discogs dates it to 1995, while some sources list 1994.
The story
San Quinn started young, performing at 12 on a bill with 2Pac and Digital Underground, and recording his first album at 15. Live N Direct followed his 1993 release Young Baby Boy (Don’t Cross Me) and features tracks like “Shootin’ the Breeze,” “Caught in the Rapture” and “Young G’s Perspective.”
Sound and production
JT the Bigga Figga produced, with “G-Man” Stan Keith also credited, giving the record the rugged Get Low sound.
Legacy
The album has been reissued several times, including a double LP in 2021, and San Quinn went on to become one of the Fillmore’s most respected veterans.
