F.B.I. is the second album by the Dayton Family, released October 1, 1996, on Relativity Records. The title stands for “Fuck Being Indicted.” It was recorded at Silver Sun Studio in Flint, Michigan, with Flint producer Steve Pitts handling most of the production and the group co-producing.
The lineup at this point was Bootleg, Shoestring and Ghetto E, who had replaced the imprisoned Backstabba. The 13-track album includes “Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” “Player Haters,” “What’s on My Mind II,” “Posse Is Dayton Ave.,” “Stick & Move” and “Ghetto.” Guests include Detroit rapper Esham and Night & Day. “Stick & Move” had appeared earlier on a 1995 No Limit Records compilation. Samples come from Latimore, Whodini and The Floaters.
F.B.I. peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard 200 and No. 7 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, the group’s highest chart placing. Bootleg was incarcerated after the release, which held up the group’s momentum.
