Back to the Hotel is the debut album by N2Deep, the Vallejo duo of Jay Tee and TL, released in June 1992 by Profile Records.

The story

The title track was a surprise national hit, reaching No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album peaked at No. 55 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Heatseekers, and it was certified Gold by the RIAA. “V-Town” features E-40 and B-Legit.

Sound and production

N2Deep and Jonny Z produced the album at K-Lou Studio in Richmond, pairing laid-back funk with radio-friendly hooks on songs like “Toss-Up” and “The Weekend.”

Legacy

It was one of the first Vallejo rap records to go national and helped open doors for the city’s scene.
