Just Outside of Town is the 1973 album by Mandrill, the Brooklyn funk band founded by the Wilson brothers, known for mixing funk, Latin, jazz and rock.
The break
“Fencewalk” became the band’s best-known song, and its heavy groove and breakdown made it a favorite at early New York parties.
Sound and production
Mandrill’s multi-instrumentalists layered horns, percussion and guitars into long, loose jams, a local New York sound that fit right in on Bronx sound systems.
Legacy
