Fat Boys is the 1984 debut album by Brooklyn’s Fat Boys, Prince Markie Dee, Kool Rock-Ski and Buff Love, the Human Beat Box, released by Sutra Records.

The story

The trio got their break winning a talent contest at Radio City Music Hall in 1983. “Jail House Rap” and “Can You Feel It?” helped the album go gold.

Sound and production

Kurtis Blow produced, pairing drum-machine beats with Buff Love’s human beatbox, which the group made a centerpiece of their sound.

Legacy

The Fat Boys became rap’s first comedy-crossover stars, with movies and TV to follow, and they made the beatbox famous.
