ATLiens is the second album by Atlanta’s OutKast, Big Boi and André 3000, released by LaFace Records in August 1996.

The story

A year after André told the Source Awards crowd that the South had something to say, OutKast delivered. “Elevators (Me & You)” became a Top 20 hit, and the album went platinum.

Sound and production

OutKast produced some of the album themselves for the first time, alongside Organized Noize, trading the Cadillac funk of their debut for spacey, dub-influenced grooves and echo.

Legacy

ATLiens marked OutKast’s turn toward the experimental and helped make Atlanta a creative capital of rap.
