Ridin’ Dirty is the third album by UGK, Pimp C and Bun B of Port Arthur, Texas, released by Jive Records in July 1996.

The story

Jive barely promoted it, and there were no hit singles, but the album spread across the South by word of mouth and went gold. Interludes from Smoke D, recorded from prison, tie it together.

Sound and production

Pimp C produced most of the album, with N.O. Joe, using live bass, guitar and organ for a slow, soulful country-rap sound.

Legacy

Ridin’ Dirty is often named the greatest Southern rap album, and Pimp C’s production shaped Texas rap for years. He died in 2007.
