Stankonia is the fourth album by OutKast, released by LaFace and Arista in October 2000.
The story
“Ms. Jackson” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, “B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)” became a critics’ favorite, and “So Fresh, So Clean” rounded out a run of hits. The album won the Grammy for Best Rap Album.
Sound and production
OutKast produced much of it themselves as Earthtone III with Mr. DJ, alongside Organized Noize, mixing rap with drum and bass, rock, funk and gospel at breakneck speed.
Legacy
Stankonia made OutKast superstars and set up the Album of the Year win for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below three years later.
