93 ’til Infinity is the debut album by East Oakland’s Souls of Mischief, released by Jive on September 28, 1993.
The story
It reached No. 85 on the Billboard 200 and No. 17 on the R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. The title track reached No. 72 on the Hot 100 and No. 11 on the Hot Rap Singles chart, and has since been certified platinum. “That’s When Ya Lost” and “Never No More” followed.
Sound and production
The Hieroglyphics crew produced it themselves: Domino, Del the Funky Homosapien, A-Plus, Casual and Jaybiz. The title track is built on Billy Cobham’s “Heather.”
Legacy
AllMusic called it the best single album from the Hieroglyphics camp, and The Source named it one of the 100 best rap albums in 1998. The title track has been sampled or referenced by Kanye West, J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T. and Joey Bada$$.
