The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory was released on November 5, 1996, under the name Makaveli, through Death Row, Makaveli Records and Interscope.

The story

Shakur took the Makaveli name after reading Machiavelli’s The Prince in prison. He recorded the album between July 1 and August 12, 1996. It was scheduled for 1997, but after his death it was brought forward to November.

Sound and production

Producers included Darryl “Big D” Harper, Hurt-M-Badd, Reggie Moore, Dametrius Ship and QDIII, with the Outlawz throughout. The singles were “Toss It Up,” “To Live & Die in L.A.” and “Hail Mary.”

Legacy

It opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 664,000 copies in its first week and was certified 4x platinum.
