The story
The album followed You Can’t Hold Me Back, the 1989 debut that had put Awesome Dré on national rap television. Kick Magazine gives the album’s year as 1995, while Discogs lists 1993, so the exact release date is uncertain. A related 12-inch single, “A.D.’s Revenge With Don Sysko / Wartime,” is also catalogued on Discogs under 1993.
Sound and production
Discogs files the album under gangsta rap. Its sixteen tracks include the title song, “Deadly Zone,” “Psychological Warfare,” “What Is Legal?,” “Message To Da Hood,” “Dig Up Ya Roots,” “Dis Is Babylon,” “Deadlier Than Strychnine,” “Wartime” and “No Pity.” The titles carry forward the mix of political and hardcore themes that press coverage associates with his earlier work.
Legacy
A.D.’s Revenge is much less documented than the debut and did not get the same national exposure. It is the last full-length album in the early run of Awesome Dré and the Hardcore Committee before his later independent releases and collaborations with Psychopathic Records artists.
