Ghetto Tech Detroit

Ghetto Tech Detroit is a mixed CD by DJ Godfather, released in 2002 by the Irish label Urban Substance Records (catalog USR-07). It presents 38 tracks as one continuous mix lasting 48 minutes and 41 seconds.

The story

By 2002 Brian Jeffries had spent years running the Twilight 76 and Databass labels and producing the Da Bomb series in Detroit. Ghetto Tech Detroit brought that style to a European label. Oliver Way was executive producer, Integrale Muzique Limited handled distribution, and the release credits Database Recording Studios.

Sound and production

The mix blends ghettotech with Detroit electro. Artists in the tracklist include DJ Assault, DJ Deeon, Erik Travis, Erotek and DJ Zap. With 38 tracks in under 49 minutes, most selections are played only briefly. Discogs notes several crediting and spelling errors in the track listing.

Legacy

Along with later mix CDs such as The Godfather Chronicles (The Ghetto Tech Sound Of Detroit) in 2004, Ghetto Tech Detroit helped bring Godfather’s ghettotech mixing to audiences outside Michigan. The CD also documents the Detroit and Chicago tracks that DJs of the period were playing.
