See all on eBay →Makin Chedda On The Eastside is the debut album by Eastside Chedda Boyz, a rap crew from Detroit’s East Side. Please Believe It! Records and Annihilation Productionz released it on CD in 2000 (catalog CB5324), and a cassette edition followed in 2002.
The story
The crew came from the Jefferson/Conner neighborhood, and many of its members were related. The group’s leader, Wipeout (Antonio Caddell Jr.), was executive producer. He was building Please Believe It! into a Detroit hip-hop company. Metro Times described the album as self-released and said the crew promoted it by networking across the city and handing out CDs, and also by asking local bootleggers directly not to copy it.
Sound and production
The CD has 19 tracks and runs close to 80 minutes. Songs include “Killa Thug Shit,” “Chedda Boy Baby,” “Oh Boy,” “Who Floss Like Us” and “I Know That They Hatin.” It uses the plain street style that Wikipedia’s overview of Michigan rap links to the crew and the Street Lord’z, and it was tested in strip clubs, which Metro Times called a proving ground for Detroit hits.
Legacy
By 2004, Metro Times reported, tens of thousands of the group’s records were said to have been sold. “Oh Boy” also came out as a single and had a music video. The album has since been reissued on streaming services.
