The Streets Made Me

“The Streets Made Me” is the second No Limit album by Soulja Slim, released on July 24, 2001, on No Limit South with Master P as executive producer.

The story

The album arrived three years after “Give It 2 ’Em Raw,” during a period when No Limit’s output and sales had slowed from their late-1990s peak. XXL reported that, like his first album for the label, it was released while Soulja Slim was incarcerated. It reached No. 188 on the Billboard 200, No. 42 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 9 on the Independent Albums chart. XXL reported combined sales of about 420,000 copies for his two No Limit albums.

Sound and production

The 21-track album was produced by Bass Heavy, Carlos Stephens, Donald “XL” Robertson, Ezell Swang, Ke-Noe and Suga Bear. Guests include Master P, Silkk the Shocker, Afficial, Black Felon, Damien, Krazy, Ms. Peaches, Slay Sean, Tre-Nitty and Twelve A’ Klok. Tracks include “Get Cha Mind Right,” “Make It Happen,” “Bossman” and the closing “Can’t Touch Us.”

Legacy

Critical reception was limited; AllMusic gave the album one star and The Source gave it two and a half. It was Soulja Slim’s final album for No Limit. The following year he founded Cut Throat Comitty Records and released “Years Later,” which moved his career onto an independent footing in the two years before his death in 2003.
