Finally Rich

“Finally Rich” is the debut studio album by Chicago rapper Chief Keef, released on December 18, 2012, through Interscope Records and his Glory Boyz Entertainment imprint.

The story

Chief Keef’s rise in 2012 was driven by street videos and local hits that spread quickly online, leading to a deal with Interscope. His breakout song “I Don’t Like,” featuring Lil Reese, gained wider attention when Kanye West remixed it with Pusha T, Big Sean and Jadakiss for the G.O.O.D. Music compilation “Cruel Summer.” The project started out as a planned mixtape before growing into a full album, and its release slipped from late November to mid-December 2012.

Sound and production

Young Chop produced most of the album and served as executive producer, and his booming, menacing beats became the signature sound of Chicago drill. Other producers included Mike Will Made It. Guests included 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, French Montana, Master P and Lil Reese. Singles included “I Don’t Like,” which reached No. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100, “Love Sosa” and “Hate Bein’ Sober.”

Legacy

The album debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 with about 50,000 copies sold in its first week. Reviews were mixed at the time, but its reputation has grown considerably as drill spread worldwide. The RIAA certified it platinum in 2022, and Rolling Stone ranked it No. 32 on its 2022 list of the greatest hip hop albums of all time.
