Still Standing

“Still Standing” is the second studio album by Goodie Mob, released on April 7, 1998, through LaFace Records with distribution by Arista Records.

The story

Recorded between July 1997 and February 1998, the album followed the gold-certified debut “Soul Food” and kept the group rooted in Atlanta’s Dungeon Family circle. Guest appearances came from Outkast, Cool Breeze, Lil’ Wil, Witchdoctor, Chiefton and Backbone. The singles were “They Don’t Dance No Mo’” and “Black Ice (Sky High),” the latter featuring Outkast and reaching number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Sound and production

Organized Noize served as executive producer and shaped much of the record, with further production from Mr. DJ, Craig Love, David Whild, DJ Muggs, and group members CeeLo Green and T-Mo. The 15-track, roughly 68-minute set keeps the group’s soulful, bass-heavy Southern foundation while broadening its range of textures and moods.

Legacy

“Still Standing” became the group’s commercial high point, peaking at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The RIAA certified it gold on May 7, 1998, about a month after release. It confirmed that the group’s debut was no fluke and helped keep Atlanta at the center of the late 1990s Southern rap surge.
