Organized Bass

“Organized Bass” is the sixth studio album by Kilo Ali, released on July 29, 1997, through Interscope Records.

The story

Born Andrell Rogers in Atlanta, Kilo Ali first recorded as Kilo in the early 1990s for Arvis and later Wrap/Ichiban, building a local following in the city’s bass scene with records such as “A-Town Rush.” “Organized Bass” was his major-label move, recorded at Synergy Studios and Purple Dragon Studios in Atlanta. Guests included Big Boi, CeeLo Green, George Clinton, JT Money and Kool-Ace. The singles were “Show Me Love” and “Baby, Baby.”

Sound and production

Red Money, Cooly C, DJ Taz, Kool-Ace, Mr. Richards and Kilo Ali produced the tracks, with King J and Organized Noize credited as executive producers. The album blends fast Miami-style bass rhythms with funk touches and hip hop songwriting across roughly 55 minutes.

Legacy

The album reached number 173 on the Billboard 200, number 44 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number 9 on Heatseekers Albums. It remains the most widely distributed release by an artist seen as a pioneer of Atlanta bass. In 2021 Kilo Ali filed a copyright suit alleging that an NLE Choppa song borrowed from the album track “Love in Ya Mouth.”
