Rappin' 4-Tay

Don’t Fight The Feelin’

“Don’t Fight the Feelin’” is the second studio album by Rappin’ 4-Tay, released on July 26, 1994, through Chrysalis Records and Rag Top Records.

The story

The San Francisco rapper took the album’s title from the 1988 Too Short track on which he had made his mainstream debut. Recorded in 1993 and 1994 at five Bay Area studios, the project kept a local focus, with fellow San Francisco rappers JT the Bigga Figga, Lil’ Fly and Seff tha Gaffla among the guests. Franky J served as executive producer. The album followed his 1991 debut, “Rappin’ 4-Tay Is Back!!!”

Sound and production

Eight producers shaped the sixteen tracks: Ant Banks, Black C, Cyrus Esteban, Gigolo G, J-Mack, JT the Bigga Figga, Lil’ Fly and T.C. The result pairs smooth, soul-rooted grooves with 4-Tay’s conversational delivery, most visibly on “I’ll Be Around,” which draws on the Spinners song of the same name.

Legacy

Both singles crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100, with “Playaz Club” peaking at No. 36 and “I’ll Be Around” at No. 39. The album itself reached No. 174 on the Billboard 200, No. 52 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 4 on Heatseekers Albums.
