Aquemini is the third album by OutKast, released by LaFace Records in September 1998. The title blends Big Boi’s sign, Aquarius, with André 3000’s, Gemini.
The story
“Rosa Parks,” with its harmonica breakdown, became a hit and later the subject of a lawsuit from Rosa Parks herself. Guests include Raekwon, Goodie Mob and George Clinton. The Source gave it five mics.
Sound and production
OutKast and Organized Noize leaned into live instruments, from the horns of “SpottieOttieDopaliscious” to the guitar and strings on “Da Art of Storytellin’.”
Legacy
Aquemini is widely seen as OutKast’s masterpiece and one of the greatest Southern rap albums ever made.
