Chedda Make It Betta!

Chedda Make It Betta! is the second album by Detroit’s Eastside Chedda Boyz. Please Believe It! Records and Annihilation Productionz released it on CD in July 2003.

The story

Metro Times covered the crew in its “Soul Purpose” series in July 2003, about two weeks after the album came out. By then the single “I’m a Chedda Boy” was being played on WDTJ 105.9 and WJLB 97.9. The paper also noted that Tela, Too $hort, Juvenile and Cam’ron had become fans. Wipeout was again executive producer.

Sound and production

Crew member Mall produced most of the 20 tracks. Bay Area rappers Yukmouth and B-Legit appear as guests, as does BadAzz. Songs include “Bow Down,” “First Warning,” “Hard Time Hustler,” “What You Know About” and “I’m A Cheddar Boy 2.” The packaging is inconsistent: the front cover, disc and liner notes read “Chedda Make It Betta!” while the spine and back inlay leave out the exclamation mark. Metro Times called it “Chedda Makes It Betta.”

Legacy

It was the last Eastside Chedda Boyz album released while Wipeout was alive. He was shot and killed in downtown Detroit on September 18, 2004. The album documents a crew that promoted itself through radio, strip clubs and hand-to-hand CD sales in the early 2000s, and it has since been reissued on streaming services.
