Dwellin’ in tha Labb is JT the Bigga Figga’s most successful album, released in October 1995 through Get Low Recordz and Priority Records.
The story
Backed by national distribution, the album reached No. 168 on the Billboard 200, No. 24 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 9 on Heatseekers, and the title track hit No. 39 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. Guests include E-40, Master P, Celly Cel, Mac Mall and San Quinn. Priority released JT from his contract in 1996.
Sound and production
JT produced alongside “G-Man” Stan Keith and LeShaun Smith, polishing his Fillmore funk for a wider audience on cuts like “Put Yo Mack Hand Down” and “Critical.”
Legacy
The guest list reads like a map of mid-90s West Coast independent rap, and the album remains JT’s high-water mark.
