Headz Or Tailz

“Headz or Tailz” is the second studio album by Chicago rap trio Do or Die, released on April 7, 1998, through Rap-A-Lot Records and Virgin Records.

The story

Following the success of “Picture This” and its hit “Po Pimp,” N.A.R.D., Belo Zero and AK-47 returned with a longer, more ambitious record, recorded across 1997 and 1998. The lead single, “Still Po Pimpin,” once again featured Twista and Johnny P and revisited the formula of their breakout song. The album also includes “Bustin Back,” a diss record aimed at Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.

Sound and production

Sessions took place at Creator’s Way in Chicago and at Houston studios including Hippie House and Knock Hard. Mike Dean, Mr. Lee and The Legendary Traxster handled production, with J. Prince as executive producer. Across 17 tracks and more than 70 minutes, the group was joined by guests including Scarface, Bushwick Bill, Twista, Johnny P, Danny Boy and Val Young.

Legacy

“Headz or Tailz” became the group’s highest-charting album, peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. “Still Po Pimpin” reached No. 62 on the Hot 100 and No. 16 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. The RIAA certified the album gold in May 1998, less than two months after release.
