Ill Mannered Playas is the second and final album by San Francisco’s I.M.P., released on In-A-Minute Records. Discogs dates the original CD to 1995; some sources list 1996, the year of the cassette.
The story
The album shows the crew at its most polished, with cuts like “Boss Mackin’,” “Public Execution” and “Shinin’ Star,” and it closes with a remix of “Tell Me Somethin’ Good.”
Sound and production
Cougnut again produced, keeping the slow-rolling, synth-heavy mobb sound that defined In-A-Minute’s mid-90s catalog.
Legacy
Long out of print, the album was reissued on red vinyl in 2021, a sign of how highly it is regarded among Bay Area heads.
