Killa Kali is the second album by Vallejo’s Celly Cel, released in April 1996 by Sick Wid’ It and Jive Records.

The story

It was his commercial peak, reaching No. 26 on the Billboard 200 and No. 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The singles were “It’s Goin’ Down,” “4 tha Scrilla” and “Can’t Tell Me Shit,” and guests include E-40, B-Legit and Spice 1.

Sound and production

A deep bench of Bay producers, including K-Lou, Studio Ton, Tone Capone and Sean T, shaped the album’s menacing mobb sound, with Celly Cel as executive producer.

Legacy

“It’s Goin’ Down” remains one of the signature Bay Area songs of the mid-90s.
