Labcabincalifornia is the second album by the Pharcyde, released by Delicious Vinyl in November 1995.
The story
Moodier and more reflective than their debut, it reached No. 17 on the R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. “Runnin’” reached No. 55 on the Hot 100 and was certified gold, and “Drop” came with Spike Jonze’s famous backwards video.
Sound and production
A young Detroit producer then called Jay Dee made “Runnin’,” built on a Stan Getz sample, and “Drop,” among other tracks. It was one of the first major showcases for the producer later known as J Dilla.
Legacy
Its reputation has grown with Dilla’s, and many fans now rank it alongside Bizarre Ride.
