MC Breed & DFC

MC Breed & DFC is the debut album by MC Breed, made with the Flint duo DFC (Al Breed, his cousin, and Bobby “T-Dub” Thompson). It was released in 1991 on S.D.E.G. Records with distribution by Ichiban Records, and produced by MC Breed, Herman Lang and S. Harris.

The 11-track album includes “Underground Slang,” “Job Corp,” “That’s Life,” “Black for Black” and “More Power,” built on samples from James Brown, the Ohio Players and Eddie Kendricks, among others. The Washington Post noted its low-budget look and sound.

The single “Ain’t No Future in Yo’ Frontin'” reached No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 12 on Hot Rap Singles, and “Just Kickin’ It” reached No. 10 on Hot Rap Singles. The album peaked at No. 142 on the Billboard 200, No. 38 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 3 on Heatseekers. Wikipedia describes Breed as one of the first rappers from the Detroit-area scene to achieve national success.
