Piñata is the 2014 album by Gary, Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs and producer Madlib, released on Madlib Invazion.

The story

The pair built it over several years of EPs. Guests include Raekwon, Scarface, Danny Brown and Earl Sweatshirt.

Sound and production

Madlib’s dusty soul and blaxploitation loops meet Gibbs’s precise, hard-edged street rap, a pairing many fans didn’t expect to work.

Legacy

It’s a modern underground classic and led to their follow-up, Bandana, in 2019.
