Power is the second album by Ice-T, released by Sire on September 13, 1988.
The story
“I’m Your Pusher,” which flipped Curtis Mayfield’s “Pusherman” into an anti-drug message about selling records instead, reached No. 13 on the R&B singles chart, and “High Rollers” followed. The album reached No. 6 on the R&B albums chart and became Ice-T’s only RIAA platinum album. It also sparked his feud with LL Cool J.
Sound and production
Ice-T and Afrika Islam produced at Syndicate Studios West, pairing tough drum programming with funk and rock samples.
Legacy
The cover, featuring his then-girlfriend Darlene Ortiz, drew criticism and became iconic. The album made Rhyme $yndicate a force on the West Coast.
