Psycho Active is the debut album by X-Raided, released by Black Market Records on April 16, 1992.

The story

It helped launch Black Market and introduced Brotha Lynch Hung, who appears and co-produced. X-Raided was arrested weeks before its release, and prosecutors later used its lyrics as evidence at his trial, a case often cited in debates about rap lyrics in court.

Sound and production

X-Raided, Brotha Lynch Hung and Cedric Singleton produced dense, sample-heavy beats drawing on Marvin Gaye and Funkadelic. Sicx, Big-O, Kaos and CYCO appear.

Legacy

Its heavy use of uncleared samples has made an official reissue unlikely, and original copies are collector’s items.
