Short Dog’s in the House is the sixth album by Too $hort, released by Jive on September 11, 1990.

The story

“The Ghetto” reached No. 42 on the Hot 100, his biggest hit as a lead artist, and the album reached No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the R&B chart. It went platinum. Ice Cube appears on “Ain’t Nothin’ But a Word to Me,” and “Dead or Alive” answered rumors that he had died.

Sound and production

Too $hort produced with Sir Jinx, Al Eaton, DJ Pooh and others, with live-sounding funk under his laid-back delivery.

Legacy

“The Ghetto” showed a more reflective side of Too $hort and became one of his most lasting songs.
