“The Hustle Continues” is a studio album by San Quinn, released on August 6, 1996, through Get Low Recordz and Straight Out Tha Labb Entertainment, with distribution by Priority Records.
The story
Born in Oakland and raised in San Francisco’s Fillmore District, San Quinn began performing as a child, opening for 2Pac and Digital Underground at age twelve and recording his first album at fifteen. He was also a member of the Get Low Playaz alongside JT the Bigga Figga, D-Moe and Seff tha Gaffla, and this album came out through that crew’s Get Low Recordz. San Quinn wrote the material and served as executive producer with JT the Bigga Figga and Rack Skerz.
Sound and production
JT the Bigga Figga produced ten of the twelve tracks, giving the record a unified sound built in the crew’s own Get Low Labb, with engineering at Find A Way Studios and Bayview Studios. The album opens with “Mobstyle Musik” and closes with “Word to tha Wise,” with the title track and “Shock the Party” among its better-known cuts. It runs about fifty-two minutes.
Legacy
“The Hustle Continues” is one of the central records of San Francisco’s mid-1990s independent scene and an early landmark in a solo career that continued with “The Mighty Quinn” in 2001 and later releases.
