The New Jim Jones is the debut album by Dre Dog, the Fillmore, San Francisco MC born Andre Adams, released in 1993 by In-A-Minute Records. He would later rename himself Andre Nickatina and become one of the Bay’s most devoted cult figures.

The story

The record introduced Dre Dog’s rapid, off-kilter flow and dark humor on tracks like “Most Hated Man in Frisco,” “Jim Jones Posse” and “Alcatraz.” “The Ave.” was released as a cassette single.

Sound and production

Dre Dog co-produced with T.C., the In-A-Minute house producer, building eerie, minimal tracks that leave space for his unpredictable delivery.

Legacy

In 1997 he became Andre Nickatina and launched Filmoe Coleman Records. Fans treat the Dre Dog albums as the origin story of one of San Francisco’s most independent careers.
