Time to Stack is the album by Young Ed, a rapper from the Lakeview area of southwest San Francisco, released on CD in 1996 by Cellski’s Inner City Records.
The story
Young Ed was part of the Inner City circle around Cellski, one of the key figures of the OMI and Lakeview scene. Tracks include “Fo the Real” with Cellski, “Caught Up,” “Young Life” and “Playa Forever.”
Sound and production
Cellski and Chess produced and played keys, and The Enhancer mixed. SPIN’s 2023 guide to San Francisco rap singled out the album’s haunting production.
Legacy
Hard to find for years, it was reissued on CD in 2003 and as a limited 150-copy LP in 2020.
