Trinity (Past, Present and Future) was released by Capitol Records on August 13, 2002. It reached No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart.
The story
With J Dilla gone solo, longtime affiliate Elzhi joined T3 and Baatin. “Tainted,” featuring Dwele, reached No. 87 on the Hot 100, and “Disco” followed.
Sound and production
Production was split among T3, Waajeed, J Dilla, Karriem Riggins, Young RJ, Black Milk, Hi-Tek and Scott Storch. Riggins produced “Tainted.”
Legacy
Reviews were mixed, but it marked the move from the Dilla era to the group’s Capitol period, which continued with Detroit Deli in 2004.
