Doughboyz Cashout
Payroll Giovanni is the stage name of Dior Giovanni Petty, a rapper from Detroit’s West Side. He started out in Cashoutboyz with high school classmates, and in 2006 that group merged with Doughboyz to form Doughboyz Cashout, the crew he became best known for leading. Their first mixtape, We Run the City, came out in 2007. In 2013 Jeezy signed Doughboyz Cashout to his CTE World label.
Solo career
His solo career started the same year with Get Money Stay Humble (2013), and Stack Season followed in 2015. AllMusic describes him as a veteran MC known for detailed hustling stories and a calm, steady flow. He later started his own label, BYLUG Entertainment (Boss Your Life Up Gang), which has released most of his solo albums. A recurring “Hustle Muzik” track series runs through several of them.
Big Bossin with Cardo
His best-known work is with the producer Cardo. Big Bossin Vol. 1, an 18-track, 68-minute mixtape produced entirely by Cardo, came out in May 2016 and quickly gained a cult following online. In December 2017 the pair signed with Def Jam, which released Big Bossin Vol. 2 in January 2018 with guests including E-40 and Jeezy. Critics compared its sound to California G-funk. The album came out shortly after Doughboyz Cashout member Doughboy Roc died in October 2017. A short film for “Big Bossin,” directed by Kid Art, followed in February 2018. The two worked together again on Game Related (2020), with Larry June and HBK, and on Another Day Another Dollar (2021).
Outlook
His songs mostly deal with making money and handling it wisely. Around Vol. 2 he told Metro Times he had moved to Atlanta to concentrate on his career.
