Spectrasonics Omnisphere is one of the most-used software synths in modern production. Designer Eric Persing’s company moved from sample libraries into virtual instruments with Atmosphere in 2002, then released Omnisphere in 2008. Omnisphere 3 arrived in 2025 with more than 26,000 sounds.
How it works
It combines sampled sources with synthesis, and its huge library covers pads, basses, keys and textures. It can also turn over 300 hardware synths into controllers for itself.
The hip hop connection
Sound On Sound says its electronic production library leans toward pop, hip hop and trap. Hit-Boy has named it as part of his setup. Its presets are so common that Sound On Sound’s feature on Metro Boomin praised him for not using the same Omnisphere patches as everyone else.
