The story
Released three years after City Of Trees, the album shows how big the collective’s roster had become. The tracklist credits a rotating cast of members and affiliates, among them Kawshus, O-1, B-Dog, Slautah, Konphlict, Supa Emcee, Blitz, Shi-Dog, D’Phuzion, Alius and Guilty Simpson, with guest spots from Knightrail Regime, Tha KRAKS and LandLordz. A promotional “Snippetz” cassette also exists.
Sound and production
The record is built around posse cuts and battle-oriented tracks. “Verbal Artillery” features six MCs and “Battle Groundz” features seven, while “The Art Of Battle” spotlights O-1 under the name Ed Scizzorz. Guilty Simpson appears on several songs and has a solo track, “Loose Cannon.” The album closes with “Dawn Of Tha Dreadnaughtz,” featuring Supa Emcee, Guilty Simpson and 40G.
Legacy
Point Of No Return documents Guilty Simpson years before his Stones Throw debut, and its posse cuts reflect the crew’s battle background. Wikipedia lists the group’s label as DLP, and the album remains one of the core entries in the crew’s self-released catalog.
