Game Related

“Game Related” is the second studio album by The Click, released on November 7, 1995, through Sick Wid It Records and Jive Records.

The story

Recorded across 1994 and 1995, the album arrived as the Vallejo family group of E-40, B-Legit, D-Shot and Suga-T was reaching a national audience through its deal with Jive. Two singles were promoted with videos: “Hurricane,” issued in August 1995, and “Scandalous,” issued in March 1996. The closing track, “Hot Ones Echo Thru the Ghetto,” had already appeared in the 1995 film “Tales from the Hood” and on its soundtrack.

Sound and production

Production came mainly from Studio Ton, Mike Mosley and Kevin Gardner, with Tone Capone also contributing and Roger Troutman credited. The fourteen tracks run just over an hour and draw on funk sources, including samples of Roger Troutman’s “Computer Love” and Prince’s “If I Was Your Girlfriend.”

Legacy

“Game Related” peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, while “Hurricane” reached No. 63 on the Billboard Hot 100. The RIAA certified the album gold on December 9, 1998. Critical response at the time was mixed, but both singles were later collected on the 1999 compilation “Sick Wid It’s Greatest Hits.”
