Just Tryin’ ta Live is the second solo album by Houston’s Devin the Dude, released by Rap-A-Lot Records in 2002.

The story

Devin came up with the Odd Squad and his Coughee Brothaz crew, and he’d just appeared on Dr. Dre’s 2001. This album cemented his reputation as rap’s funniest, most relaxed storyteller.

Sound and production

Warm, soulful beats with live bass and keys give Devin room for his sung-rapped hooks and everyday tales.

Legacy

Devin never became a huge seller, but other rappers constantly name him as a favorite, and he remains a Houston cult hero.
