Daz Dillinger (Delmar Arnaud), Long Beach producer and rapper: Tha Dogg Pound, Death Row, Dogg Food and beats for 2Pac’s All Eyez on Me.

Long Beach

Daz Dillinger was born Delmar Drew Arnaud on May 25, 1973, and came up in Long Beach, California, alongside his cousin Snoop Dogg and the circle that became the 213 and Death Row camps. He first recorded as Dat Nigga Daz, later taking the name Dillinger.

Death Row's in-house producer

Daz was on the ground floor at Death Row. He appeared on Dr. Dre's The Chronic (1992) and Snoop's Doggystyle (1993), and worked on the production side of both, programming drums and building tracks under Dre. With Kurupt he formed Tha Dogg Pound, whose debut Dogg Food (1995) he produced almost entirely. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 despite the political heat around its release.

All Eyez on Me

When 2Pac arrived at Death Row, Daz became one of his main producers. On All Eyez on Me (1996) he made “Ambitionz Az a Ridah,” “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” with Snoop and “Got My Mind Made Up.” His sound was slower and heavier than Dre's gloss: rolling bass, live keys and long, open grooves.

After Death Row

His solo debut, Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back, came out on Death Row in 1998 after he had already left the label. He then built his own D.P.G. Recordz and became one of the most prolific independent artists in West Coast rap, releasing album after album on his own. In 2006 he released So So Gangsta through Jermaine Dupri's So So Def, and Tha Dogg Pound reunited with Kurupt for several albums in the 2000s.
