The battles

Leandro Roque de Oliveira was born in São Paulo on August 17, 1985, and grew up on the north side. He made his name in freestyle battles, including Criolo’s Rinha dos MCs, where his run of wins earned the name Emicida, from “MC” and “homicida.”

Laboratório Fantasma

With his brother Evandro Fióti he built Laboratório Fantasma, a label and clothing brand, and sold his first mixtape, Pra Quem Já Mordeu um Cachorro por Comida, Até que Eu Cheguei Longe… (2009), hand to hand. Albums like O Glorioso Retorno de Quem Nunca Esteve Aqui (2013) and Sobre Crianças, Quadris, Pesadelos e Lições de Casa… (2015) followed.

AmarElo

AmarElo (2019), with Majur and Pabllo Vittar on the title track, was his biggest record, and the Netflix documentary AmarElo: It’s All for Yesterday (2020) framed it within the history of Black Brazilian culture.
