Criolo
Criolo: Grajaú, São Paulo rapper and singer, founder of the Rinha dos MCs battles. Nó na Orelha (2011), “Não Existe Amor em SP,” Convoque Seu Buda (2014).
Grajaú
Kleber Cavalcante Gomes was born in São Paulo on September 5, 1975, and grew up in Grajaú on the far south side. He started rapping in 1989 as Criolo Doido and in 2006 co-founded the Rinha dos MCs, the battle night that became a proving ground for a new generation, including Emicida.
Nó na Orelha
After Ainda Há Tempo (2006), he broke through with Nó na Orelha (2011), produced by Daniel Ganjaman and Marcelo Cabral. It moved easily between rap, samba, Afrobeat and ballads, and “Não Existe Amor em SP” became an anthem of the city.
Later
Convoque Seu Buda (2014) went back to harder rap, and he has kept moving between rap and samba records since.
