Strawberry Manor
Clifford “Junie” Baron, also known as Lil Junie, came out of Sacramento's Strawberry Manor neighborhood and started rapping as a teenager in 1993, releasing the tape Funk Rappin Affair on the local C Funk Productions label.
My Ghetto Life Under Siege
His only full album, My Ghetto Life Under Siege (1996), was produced by the C Funk Crew with Junie handling drum programming, and features Tasha “Tomboy” Baron. Songs like “My Ghetto Life,” “350 Rocket” and “Glock Go Pop” made it what Sacramento collectors call an underground classic, and original copies now sell for serious money.
After
His “Do You Want To Funk” was included on the 1998 compilation The Best of Sacramento (The Past), alongside the city's Black Market-era names, and he made occasional compilation appearances into the 2000s, including Half Man, Half Amazing (2001) with Skee 64 and Nine One Classix (2009). He's one of the many 90s Sacramento artists whose music survives mostly on original CDs and cassettes passed between fans.
