Meadowview
Shawn Thomas was born in Waco, Texas, in 1972 and grew up in Sacramento's Meadowview neighborhood, one of nine children raised by a single parent. He spent much of his youth in and out of custody, and his music comes straight out of the Garden Blocc streets that also produced Brotha Lynch Hung and X-Raided.
AWOL Records
His debut, Gas Chamber (1993), came out on AWOL Records with production from Vallejo's Mike Mosley and Sam Bostic, and the video for “4-Deep.” Tales from the Crypt (1995) reached No. 4 on the R&B albums chart with “Birds in the Kitchen.” Houston's DJ Screw called C-Bo his favorite artist of all time in a 1995 interview.
One Life 2 Live (1997) and Til My Casket Drops (1998), co-released with Noo Trybe, took him to No. 41 on the Billboard 200, with E-40, Spice 1, X-Raided and the Outlawz among the guests. In 1998 he was arrested because his lyrics were said to violate his parole, a case that drew national attention to free speech in rap.
West Coast Mafia
After The Final Chapter (1999), he started his own West Coast Mafia Records, opening with Enemy of the State (2000), which reached No. 2 on the Independent Albums chart. He formed Thug Lordz with Yukmouth and later Spice 1, made a joint album with Brotha Lynch Hung, Blocc Movement (2001), and has kept releasing records into the 2020s, including new music with X-Raided on Strange Music in 2025.
