Background
Marv Won is the stage name of Marvin Eugene O’Neal, born February 4, 1981, in Detroit, Michigan. He came up around 2000 through open mic nights in Hamtramck, and in 2001 he formed the Fat Killahz with Fatt Father, Bang Belushi and King Gordy. In 2013 he and Fatt Father also formed the duo Twin Towers.
Battle rap
Marv Won has been a fixture of the battle rap circuit for more than a decade. He appears in a scene cut from 8 Mile, battling Eminem; the scene was later included on the film’s DVD. He reached the finals of King of the Dot’s Grand Prix against Saynt LA, and has often battled as a two-man team with fellow Detroit rapper Quest MCODY.
Solo records
His solo catalog began with Way of the Won (2009) and Wayne Fontes Music (2010), followed by the EP Heavy Is the Head... (2012) on My Own Planet. Soundtrack of Autumn arrived in 2016 through FWMJ’s Rappers I Know, and Sooner Than Later followed in December 2020 on The What of Whom and Rappers I Know. He is credited as producer on both albums.
Mello Music Group
In 2024 he released I’m Fine, Thanks For Asking, his first album on Mello Music Group. Recorded at his One Of Won Studios in Detroit and produced by Marv Won, it features eLZhi, Fatt Father, Freeway, Rapper Big Pooh, Monica Blaire and Quelle Chris. Across his career he has also worked with Danny Brown, Bilal, Dwele, Royce da 5'9", Boldy James and Black Milk.
