The Akai MPC X is the studio flagship of the modern MPC line. Announced alongside the MPC Live in January 2017, it’s a large standalone MPC with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 16 knobs with their own OLED labels, mic and phono inputs, eight outputs and CV/Gate for modular gear.
History
The MPC X led Akai’s return to computer-free MPCs. A grey MPC X Special Edition in 2023 doubled the memory and added more storage, with a finish meant to recall the original units, and Akai billed it as the most powerful MPC ever at the time.

Buying one today
The original is black and the SE is grey with more memory and storage. Check the touchscreen and the OLED knob labels. It has no battery, so it’s a studio machine.
