24th Street
Kevin Mann was born in Sacramento in 1969 and went to John F. Kennedy High School. A fan of Rakim and Slick Rick, he started rapping at 13, and by 16 he was part of the 24th Street Garden Blocc Crips in South Sacramento. He was once shot trying to break up a fight at a house party, and the bullet was never removed.
Black Market Records
Sacramento's rap scene was built around Cedric Singleton's Black Market Records, and Lynch was at its center. He first appeared on, and co-produced, X-Raided's Psycho Active (1992). His own 24 Deep EP was Black Market's first charting release, and he produced for the label's other artists, including Mr. Doctor's Setripn' Bloccstyle (1995).
Season of da Siccness
His debut album, Season of da Siccness: The Resurrection (1995), was produced, mixed and mastered by Lynch himself at Enharmonic Studio in Sacramento. Dark, graphic and slow, it was dedicated to his cousin Q-Ball, who was killed while it was being made. Lynch called his style “rip gut,” and the album is now counted among the founding records of horrorcore. Loaded (1997), with guests including E-40 and Ice-T, reached No. 28 on the Billboard 200, the peak of his career on the charts.
Independence and Strange Music
After a break-in at his home, unfinished songs were taken, and Black Market released EBK4 (2000) without his approval. He left the label in 2003 in a dispute over his catalog and started Siccmade Muzicc. In 2009 he signed with Tech N9ne's Strange Music, releasing a trilogy of concept albums, Dinner and a Movie, Coathanga Strangla and Mannibalector, before going independent again in 2013. He returned to his most famous title with Season of da Siccness 2: Kevlar in 2024.
