B-Legit
Vallejo rapper and cousin of E-40, a founding member of The Click whose Sick Wid’ It solo album “The Hemp Museum” reached number 55 on the Billboard 200 in 1996.
Vallejo family
Brandt Jones, known as B-Legit, is from Vallejo, California. He is a cousin of E-40, and in 1986 the two enrolled together at Grambling State University, where they stayed for a year. Back home they formed a group with E-40's siblings D-Shot and Suga-T, first called Most Valuable Players and later The Click, and sold their early recordings from the back of a car.
Sick Wid' It solo career
B-Legit recorded for Sick Wid' It Records, the label E-40 founded in 1989, and released his first solo album, “Tryin' to Get a Buck,” in 1993. His second, “The Hemp Museum,” came out on November 26, 1996, through Sick Wid' It and Jive Records. It reached number 55 on the Billboard 200 and number 15 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, with guests including E-40, Celly Cel, C-Bo and Kurupt. Its singles were “Check It Out,” with E-40 and Kurupt, and “Ghetto Smile,” a reworking of a Daryl Hall song for which Hall recorded new vocals. In 1996 he also appeared on 2Pac's “Ain't Hard 2 Find” from “All Eyez on Me.”
Koch years and later
Moving to Koch Records, he released “Hempin' Ain't Easy” on July 25, 2000. It peaked at number 64 on the Billboard 200 and number 13 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, with guests including Snoop Dogg, E-40, Kurupt and Mack 10. Later solo albums include “Hard 2 B-Legit” (2002), “Block Movement” (2005), “Throwblock Muzic” (2007) and “What We Been Doin'” (2015). He runs his own independent label, Block Movement, and has also recorded as Hash Brown Billo.
With E-40
Beyond The Click's albums, he and E-40 recorded “Southwest Riders” (1997) and “Connected and Respected” (2018), the latter bringing the full Click lineup together on the track “Blame It.”
