Early years
Tone Tone was born Antonio Henderson in Detroit. He began rapping at age nine and attended Finney High School, and by his early twenties he was signed to Wide Open Records, the Detroit label that released his first two albums.
Skoolz In Session
His debut, Skoolz In Session, came out on Wide Open in 2004. Guests included B.G. and Detroit producer K.I.D.D., and the lead single, “I Ain’t Playin Witcha,” became a local hit. In 2005 he was part of the group New Skool, whose D-Boy Surviva came out on Wide Open, and he issued the Strickly Fo Da Streetz mixtape.
Sho’nuff and D-Boy Fresh
Tone Tone signed to Sho’nuff Records, run by the producer Jazze Pha, and appeared on the remix of Jazze Pha and Cee-Lo’s “Happy Hour” with Snoop Dogg and Bun B. His second album, D-Boy Fresh, came out on Wide Open in 2007 with “What Up Doe,” another local success, and guests Young Joc and Teairra Marí.
Collaborations
His “Waddupdoe” video brings together Big Herk, J-Nutty, K-Deezy, Mack Nickels, Stretch Money and Bizarre. Discogs lists guest spots on records by B.G., K’Jon, Obie Trice and Gucci Mane and a long run of Detroit street mixtapes. Legendary came out in 2020.
